This is a striking and very unusual example of a French "globe de mariee" cushion.
These traditionally sat underneath glass domes and would be used for the bride to display her wedding tiara after the big day.
Designs vary per region and this particular one combines silk & velvet with intricate toleware decoration, waxed orange blossom flowers and metalled tassels.
